More e-mail updates & Ethan's "Generic" Christmas Letter 2011

"We go to Bakersfield once a week for district meeting...members usually bring us a nice lunch for us in the cultural hall (when they have longer meetings).
It rained yesterday in the valley, but there's still some snow high on the mountaintops.  And it's gotten nice and chilly.  This is what fall is supposed to feel like.  It only took us two months to catch up with Idaho's weather   I'll take this over 100+ any day, though."

"The mission office address is changing.  Effective Dec. 12, 2011, this will be the address:  CA Ventura Mission, 3301 W. Gonzales Rd., Oxnard, CA  93036."

"One of our investigators gave us the rest of his cigarettes along with his pipe and tobacco box, so he could have less temptations around and be able to quit smoking in time to get baptized in a few weeks.  He's doing really well, We told him he had to be clean WoW-wise for 3 weeks, and he's very committed and eager about it.  We've been seeing him every day to help encourage and support him."

"After we finish e-mailing, I'm gonna go learn how to play 'As Sisters i Zion'.  Elder Hoggan and I were in charge of choosing hymns for district meeting tomorrow, so we're singing that one and all 7 verses of  'A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief'.  Teach our district leader not to give us any assignments!  ha, ha!"

Ethan's "Generic" Christmas Letter to All:
 Dear Family and Friends:
I have your addresses, but I neglect to send letters to them regularly, so here's an update on my life.  Don't think of this as a generic form letter; instead, consider it a Christmas newsletter or something.
It's been a big year for me.  I've basically lived on my own, away from home, the entire year, not counting the first 2 days of January.   It's about time, I suppose, considering I graduated like a year and a half ago.  I did 2 semesters at BYU-Idaho from January through July, and loved it.  And now I'm on my mission.  I reported to the MTC in Provo, UT, on August 3rd, somewhere between 1 and 1:30 pm Mountain Time.  How's that for remembering useless info?
Anyways, I spent 19 days there, and then on Aug. 22, I flew from Salt Lake city to Denver, and then Denver to Santa Barbara, CA.  The next day, I met my first companion (trainer), Elder Hall.  After a 3-hour drive and a couple hours of errands, I arrived in my first area, the Lake Isabella area, in the Kern River Valley.  I've been here for around 4 monoths now, and while the missionary work is fairly slow pace, it's a nice, quiet place.  I have had 2 people baptized so far, and we're working on getting a couple more people to baptism.  so far, I've been really enjoying the mission....Well, that's all I have.  Hope everyone has an awesome Christmas!
Love, Elder Ethan Stewart"
