In one of Ethan's letters, he said the area is similar to Dubois--plus 20 degrees. It is very rural and he feels right at home (they even walk in the streets since most of the small towns don't have sidewalks).

There little bathroom sink. Their apartment was actually a guest cottage behind a member's home, so things were a bit small/cramped.
Aside from having no stove/oven, "it's pretty fantastic" (nice and quiet).
Lake Isabella.
This is the drive up to the Lake Isabella area. Their apartment was in the small town of Mountain Mesa, but the area covers several rural towns in the Kern Valley.
It is a beautiful place--very similar to rural Dubois.
